My cousins Bud and Joslyn were in town visiting Portland. It ended up being a recon visit to see if they wanted to move here. (They do, but who doesn’t?) When we were talking about what to do, we decided we needed to see waterfalls.
We skipped the tourist trap that is Multnomah Falls and drove an exit or two past it in the Columbia Gorge. We were gunna hike to Ponytail Falls, Horsetail Falls, and then finish up with Triple Falls. While we were getting out of the car to start the hike, I said, “This is my favorite place in Oregon. Right at the top of Triple Falls. I dunno, it feels sacred up there.” Bud noted that was high praise, but that he didn’t quite believe it just yet.
Sure, the water is freezing cold. So let’s take off our clothes and jump in. Their vacation, and my summer, was made by jumping in the water.
